Well done to both!
The girls’ mother, Julie, expands:
“Casey and Ellis were 2 of the 6 qualifying juniors from Cambridgeshire Squash to play in the British Junior Open in Sheffield January 2nd to 6th2017. The BJO attracts players from across the world and is one of the most popular and prestigious of all the international tournaments. Each country may send up to 5 of their highest ranked players in each age group. The top 16 English juniors in each age group are also eligible to enter.
As a seeded player, Ellis (U15) won her first round and then had the opportunity (but challenging draw) to successively play the no. 1 ranked juniors from Egypt, Japan and Scotland. Ellis played English girls in rounds 5 and 6 and came 31st out of 48. Casey (U17) lost her first round to the U17 Welsh no. 1 and then lost 3-1 to all successive players including opponents from England and Canada. She gained a bye in the 4th round and came 46th out of 48. This was Casey’s first major tournament after 6 months off post major surgery, having only been back on court for the previous few weeks. She was pleased to make it both into the tournament and through the matches at such a demanding level, picking up games along the way. It was an amazing experience for both girls to play, watch and spend time with other top juniors from around the world.“
