The Sally Woods Award is the Club’s highest honour. Selected each year by the Club Chairman, it gives us an opportunity to show our appreciation to a member that has made an outstanding contribution to the club
This year, I have chosen to recognise a long-standing member who is a big supporter of squash (and racketball) at the club, as well as more widely in Cambridgeshire. Last season, he put in a tremendous amount of work on behalf of the club to negotiate a lease with the Village College. Before we had the lease, the club had no security of tenure and could in theory have been evicted from the building should, for example the Village College decide to develop new buildings on the site. The lease gives the club a secure future in its current home.
Hopefully you have seen the plans for the upgrade of the club facilities and courts. Without the effort that Nick put in last year there would be no point in applying for grant funding to make these plans happen. No prudent grant-giving body would invest in a facility without security of tenure. Nick’s hard work has unlocked the possibility of updating the facility we all enjoy as well as securing it for future players.
