Agricole Cup U16 2018

As an end of season special event the Comberton Juniors revived the

popular Agricole Cup competition. This trophy was donated to the Club

by Jeremy Cole of Agricole Ltd and is awarded for a junior:adult

squash doubles event. Each team has to be ‘inter-generational’ meaning

many juniors brought their mum or dad along to compete. Some others

had opted to ‘trade in’ their parent for another adult player.

The first round was a quick fire group stage with six teams competing

for top points against the others in their group. There was exciting

doubles play on all courts with some competitive matches. In total

over 18 junior adult pairings competed with full team listings and

rankings below. There should be special mention for actual family

pairings playing these matches: Ethan and Darren, Jess and Richard,

and finally Paul who played separately with each of his sons: Joseph

and Patrick.

The top two teams from each group played two further qualifying rounds

before the knockout stage.

Rob and James knocked out Tom and Noah in one semi-final ; Graham and

Isaac beating Matt and Martyn in the other.

The final between two father:son teams was a great competitive match

with everyone still playing hard even after more than 10 tough games

in the earlier rounds.

The final result was Graham and Isaac winning with Rob and James as runners-up.

Amazingly we were able to present them with the original Agricole cup

which turned up from the back of the coaching cup-board.
