Comberton’s Third Team headed to Hunts County on 27 January with a last-minute promotion to the team of Adam Peer, replacing an injured Sam Hicks. What’s more, Adam was playing at no. 1, the position he’d been due to play in that day for the Fourth Team!
Not surprisingly, he found himself up against some very strong opposition, but felt he’d gained useful experience at the higher level. Harry Harland-Mears at no. 2 had a very different day, performing well to overcome both his opponents 3-0. Owing to a misunderstanding our no. 3, Alex Pinches, who was due to be making his debut as a club player, arrived and then left again before the match started, under the impression that it had been cancelled, so we had to concede both his matches.
This left Comberton with overall 9-3 defeats against both Ramsey and Hunts County, but in the circumstances the result was hardly a disgrace!
