I find it difficult to say how much joy it gives me to see old juniors still coming home to play at their ‘old’ club.
Life gets in the way and they have to go away but they keep coming back!
Charlotte Davies came back to play and train. Back from Uni for the hols and putting in a surprise appearance for the thirds. Joshua Harland Mears playing younger brother Harry in loud and hard hitting matches…back from London.
Christmas Day…Harry Hennesey back in the fold after a long absence with his brother. Really good to see him down there practicing his silky skills, ready to rejoin old team mates in the seconds.
Boxing Day. Boy it was busy! No room at the Inn (court) that morning as the keenest of the keen descended to play the ritualistic squash match.
Ben and Jack were back from their jobs up north, coming ‘home’ to play the Yearly Christmas challenge against each other. Three generations of Stutchbury under the same roof (all squash players)
They have been doing this for the past 7 years! Having started at the club as novice juniors, around 12 years old, they have become good squash players…good enough to take me on court.
They turn up every year to play the MurBury Cup (Murphy/Stutchbury). Fantasic!
Then our newer juniors. Malik and Mumin came down to play too. The Elmes clan graced us as Father gave son Bertie a small lesson in squash! Good effort Bert. Maybe next year….
And of course some of the older (Ahem) members turned up to take on the later shifts as folk were leaving.
It was a good day at the club to see so many new and old members playing there and I think we are very lucky that they all find Comberton their go to place for squash.
I wonder what it’ll be like next year……?
