Last night the government announced the extension of social distancing measures to include the closure of entertainment, hospitality and indoor leisure premises across the country.
As a result, Comberton Squash will be closed with immediate effect. Members are asked not to visit the club until further notice.
Clearly, all organised activities are suspended or postponed:
- Junior Squash Coaching on Saturday Mornings is suspended
- Sunday training is suspended.
- W6 League is withdrawn. New leagues will not be published.
- The end of season Club Competitions are postponed
- Club tour 2020 is postponed
- Coaches are asked to suspend classes at the club
Squash is a big part of the lives of many club members, and we know that this will come as a disappointment to many of you. It may be tempting to imagine that solo practice or playing with family members or co-habitees should not affect social distancing, but even limiting use to one court at a time there remains scope for airborne or surface transmission to subsequent visitors to the courts. We all have a social and moral duty to minimise the spread of the disease and limit the burden on the country’s medical infrastructure. The committee asks all members to respect the closure and thanks you for your patience for what we all hope will be a few short weeks.
We also hope that you will continue to support your club financially through this period. Members are reminded that the fee is an annual total split into monthly instalments. Recognising there will be a need to be sensitive in some cases, for example if a member is suffering financial hardship, the club would normally expect a member cancelling their direct debit to make up for any missed payments before re-joining.
