Well. WHAT A YEAR!
To cut a long story short the men’s 1st team came a creditable 6th. After what was a difficult start turned into a difficult finish. But it was very interesting.
The journey brought together a new team in a way that only adversity can. All striving to win. Fighting for those extra precious points. In the end it made all the difference.
Harry Leitch fought through his back pain to secure a win for us that made a huge difference to our overall standing.
Andy D’A had flu, an adductor pull, twisted knee, golfers elbow and a slipped disc.
Nick Brown (he with the new hip) had a new hip…and a calf tear that kept him out for months.
Dan Murrell had a cold and a twisted ankle AND a new baby!
Jeremy Harris came off his bicycle at 27mph and damaged his wrist. Along the way he picked a pool of aches and strains that dragged his performance down.
David Knight (the jammy toad) seems to be unscathed this year unless a ski trip counts!?
Despite this catalogue of injuries everyone turned out as often as they could. Mostly under par but still willing to give 100% for the team.
That is a team worth playing for! Each member working hard for his team mate despite the niggles.
Harry said just the other day,”It’s much more interesting this way…”
I have to agree.
I shall also mention those that made it possible too.
Vinod Durakain, Martyn Symmons, Rob Knight, Jack Murphy and perhaps our biggest star Nick Harris. Nick stood in on more than one occasion and played his socks off whilst keeping an infectious grin going. The 22-20 man.
Thank you to all that were involved. It makes a great deal of difference when people take an interest. We couldn’t have done it without you all.
Til next time have a great summer.
